Mount Takao, a short drive away from base, is located in Hachioji. From its peak, on a clear day, one can see all the way to downtown Tokyo. At the top there is also a beer garden open during the summer months. There is a ski lift that goes from the summit and back down for anyone not in the mood for a hike, or there are several trails that are about an hour walk to the peak.
There are a number of shops on the mountain, and at the base, the area is famous for its soba noodles.
