Mount Fuji: Home

Mount Fuji is one of Japan's most scenic spots and is a short drive from Yokota Air Base.

Mount Fuji

Mount Fuji is a dormant volcano and the largest peak in Japan. Visible from Yokota on clear days, it remains one of the most potent symbols of the country. Climbing season for Mount Fuji is late July through early September. There are often trips leaving from base through Outdoor Rec, though it's possible to do it as a day trip-- but it will definitely take the full day. Many people also climb it in the afternoon and stay overnight at a hotel near the peak in order to watch the sunrise. On it, you will definitely encounter climbers of all ages. As the Japanese say, "A wise man climbs Mount Fuji once, a fool climbs it twice."

Also around the mountain are a number of attractions like Fuji Q amusement park and Fuji Five Lakes, which are popular for outdoor sports like canoeing and kayaking.
