A small museum located near Showa Park and the heart of Tachikawa, the Polar Science Museum has some really interesting displays, including a planetarium that has shows demonstrating the aurora over the arctic. There's also a vehicle to climb in and explore, microscopes to examine, and a few large posters to take pictures in front of. There's even a gift shop with stuffed animals and prints to buy.
The museum is located behind the larger Polar Research Institute, which is a large three-story building that contains a number of libraries. You can park in front of here and walk through to the museum. The closest rail station is Takamatsu on the Tama Monorail Line. You can get to the monorail line from Fussa by taking the Ome Line down to Tachickawa Station and switching lines there.
