There are now two ways to 3D print at Peterson Library: Requesting a print or printing on your own

Makerspace: 3D Printing, Conditions of Use

1. Patrons must have a current Peterson Library account in good standing in order to submit designs to be printed using the 3D printer or print in-person.

2. Peterson Library staff will handle print requests on a first come, first served basis, and staff will review each object file before it is cleared for 3D printing. Peterson Library staff retains the right to refuse or deny any 3D printing request. All print requests must be submitted through the queue.

3. Only trained Peterson Library staff will operate the Lulzbot 3D printer. Patrons may do short, under 2 hour prints on their own using the Makerbot printer by reserving the Makerspace and following procedures for printer approval.  Call the library to make the reservation. 719-556-7462.

4. Patrons are limited to 10 print hours a month, which includes requested prints and in-person prints. Individual prints must take less than 10 hours if requested and less than 2 hours if done in-person.

5. Please allow 2-3 business days for each request; however, print times are estimates and pick up times cannot be guaranteed.

6. Projects not picked up by patrons after 30 days from notification that the project is complete will become the property of the Peterson Library.

7. A 3D printing request must be an STL file and submitted through our Google Form. Accepted forms are file upload, Thingiverse link, or an acknowledgement to email the file to us. Files will be printed as submitted; Peterson Library staff will not adjust or otherwise manipulate the files, besides necessary resizing.

8. Only Peterson Library owned materials (filament) shall be used in the creation of any object. Print requests may choose filament color. In-person prints must be done with the filament already loaded onto the printer.

9. The 3D printer must be used only for lawful purposes. It  may not be used to create a weapon of any kind or objects that:

  • Are prohibited by local, state, or federal law.
  • Are inappropriate for the library and public environment.
  • May cause harm, be unsafe, or pose an immediate danger or threat to oneself or the well-being of anyone else.
  • Are subject to a legal copyright, patent, or trademark.

10. Supervision of the printing process by Peterson Library staff does not constitute knowledge, or acknowledgment, of the final use of the 3D printer’s objects, nor of the lawful status of said objects.

11. Due to the nature of 3D printing, no file is guaranteed to print successfully, and minor flaws and imperfections can be expected, such as small cracks and warping at the bottom of the print. Printed objects from the 3D printer are provided “as-is” and without warranties of any kind, either express or implied.

12. Please note that the 3D printers are viewable by the public. Peterson Library staff may photograph completed or in process 3D prints for marketing and promotional purposes. If you do not want your item used in this manner, please let Peterson Library staff know immediately.

13. Prints created using the Library's materials and printer are not for commercial use. Patrons may not request or create prints to sell. All prints must be intended for individual use.

14. All In-person prints must have a reservation for the makerspace for two hours.

15. All patrons wishing to do in-person prints must watch the required tutorial video and have this noted by library staff.
