Eielson AFB Library: Library Policies & FAQs

Conduct Guidlines

Borrowing
Library accounts will be opened to all authorized users with proper identification upon the completion of the library account registration form. Minor children will only be added to the library account when accompanied by a parent or guardian. Authorized users include active duty military, retired military, family members of active duty or retired military, DOD civilian employees, and contract employees with a CAC card.

Returning Items

Materials can be turned in at the library's circulation desk or the outdoor book drop, located in front of our building.

Overdue Materials

It is the responsibility of the borrower and sponsor to ensure all library materials are returned on time. Overdue notices are delivered by email. First Sergeants and Commanders may be contacted when materials are not returned on time. Borrowing privileges are suspended until all overdue materials are returned. 

Lost/Damaged Materials

All materials checked out are to be turned in the same condition and with all components intact. This includes, but is not limited to, cases, covers, inserts, and labels. Lost or damaged materials are to be replaced by the customer with an exact copy of the item checked out.

1. Where is the Library located?
We are located in the basement of the Eielson City Center, building #3310. You can access the library by the stairs before you enter the Community Center, or by the elevator inside the Community Center. 

2. What are the Library's hours?
We are open from 0900-1900 Monday-Tuesday, 0900-1800 Wednesday-Friday, & 1000-1400 Saturday. We are closed Sunday & Federal Holidays.

3. Does the Library provide public computers with scanners?
Yes, we have public computers available to checkout at the front desk. We have scanners on some of our computers; please let the front desk know if you require a scanner when you checkout a computer. 
 
4. Does the Library provide government network computers?
Yes, we have 6 government network computers for Air Force personnel to use. Unfortunately, we do not have government network computers for any other branch of the military.

5. Does the Library provide printers?
Yes, our public and Air Force network computers have black & white printers that are free to use, but limited to 20 pages.

6. Does the Library provide free Wi-Fi?
Yes, we provide free Wi-Fi access.

7. Does the Library have a fax machine? What is the fax number?
Yes, our fax machine is free for our patrons to use. Faxes can be sent to 907-377-1683.  If you are going to have something faxed to the library, please call us to let us know ahead of time.

8. Does the Library have a book drop?
Yes, our book drop is located in front of the Eielson City Center and is available 24/7.

9. What if I cannot find the materials I need?
If you cannot find the item you need on the shelf, or in our online catalog, please ask the library staff for assistance. If we do not have the item we can submit an interlibrary loan request to borrow the item from another library on your behalf. This program is provided at no-cost to the patron.

10. Does the Library have study areas?
Yes, we have tables all throughout the Library for public use.

11. Am I allowed to bring food or drinks into the Library?
No, we do not allow food or drinks in the Library.

12. Can I access my Library account online?

Eielson Library is for all members of the community. Staff members are committed to providing excellent services and resources to all patrons and ensuring that everyone who uses the library has a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable experience.

 

Please help us fulfill our commitment to supporting learning, building community, and enriching lives by adhering to the following guidelines:

1. Be considerate of others by keeping your volume to an acceptable level including cell phone and video chat use.

2. Audio emitting equipment such as computers, tablets, and cellphones may only be used with headphones and in a manner that does not disturb others. Headphones are available for checkout.

3. Refrain from actions or language that could be perceived as abusive or threatening to others.

4. Abide by the provisions of the Computer Use Policy.

5. Abide by United States copyright law. Duplicating DVDs and other library materials in any way is not permitted.

6. Protect your personal property. Library staff is not responsible for personal belongings left unattended.

7. Use library materials, equipment, and furnishings for their intended use and with care.

8. Return library materials on time, undamaged, and with all components, or replace said materials.

9. Used lidded containers for all drinks.

10. Supervise children. Children under the age of 10 must be directly supervised at all times by and within sight of a parent, caregiver, or someone over the age of 16 who has authority to look after them. Library staff cannot provide supervision of  children inside or outside of the library.

11. Leave before or promptly at closing.

12. Produce identification upon request from library staff. Department of Defense identification cards must be shown in order to use library resources.

13. Theft, vandalism, and mutilation of library property are criminal offenses and may be prosecuted.

14. Firearms, weapons, or facsimiles of any kind are not permitted, except by law enforcement officials.

15. Shirts, shoes, and appropriate clothing must be worn in the library at all times.

16. Service animals are permitted in the library.

17. Use of tobacco products (including smokeless tobacco and vaping), alcohol, or illegal substances is prohibited in the library.

18. Bodily hygiene and fragrance application that interferes with ordinary library use or operation is unacceptable.

19. Disruptive behavior and behavior of a sexual nature is not permitted in the library or on the library grounds.

 

Patrons shall cooperate with library staff members, who must interpret and apply these guidelines.

Library staff reserve the right to remove any person whose behavior is disruptive, inappropriate for a

library environment, or interferes with the use of the library by others or the work of library staff.

As necessary, Security Forces may be called.

2. Library materials, equipment, and furnishing are to be used only for their intended purposes and with care.

3. Be considerate of others by keeping your volume at an acceptable level.

4. Running, jumping, climbing shelves, and any unsafe actions are prohibited.

5. Headphones are to be used with all audio emitting equipment.

6. Diapers are to be changed in the restrooms.

7. Children under the age of 10 must be directly supervised at all times by and within sight of a parent, caregiver, or someone over the age of 16 who has authority to look after them.

8. Library staff cannot provide supervision of children inside or outside of the library.

9. Children over the age of 10 must demonstrate appropriate behavior for safety, courtesy, and proper library usage as determined by the librarian.

10. The Library assumes no responsibility to ensure children do not leave the library by themselves or with an unauthorized person.

11.  Children over the age of 10 must carry military-issue identification and present it upon request by library staff.

12. Parents or caregiver must be available for immediate contact anytime children 10 and older are present in the library. Children must know where their parents are and how to contact them.

13. Parents will be notified of misbehavior and must assume responsibility for child’s conduct by collecting the child. If parents cannot be reached, child will be escorted to Security Forces to await parent’s return.
