SRP Overview
The mission of the DOD MWR Libraries Summer Reading Program is to help families bridge the summer learning gap while inspiring literacy and lifelong learning for all ages.
Our Summer Reading Program is meant to encourage reading and exploration of the library. All ages can participate in the program for a chance to win prizes and experience some awesome events!
IMPORTANT DATES:
- Sign up begins: June 2
- First day to log minutes: June 7
- In-person programs for youth 12 and under are on the following Wednesdays
- June 11, June 18, June 25, July 9, July 16, and July 23
- Weekly Drawings for ages 13+
- June 16, June 23, June 30, July 14, July 21, and July 28
- Last day to log minutes: July 31
- Last day to pick up prizes: August 9
The SRP is open to all ages but is divided into the following categories.
Ages 0-12:
- Participants in this age group may earn prizes for minutes read. Prizes are offered based on minutes read up to a maximum of 2,000 minutes (5 prizes total). Beanstack will send an email notification once new prizes are earned. Minutes read for this age category are cumulative and do not have a weekly requirement. Prizes are on a first come, first serve basis while supplies last. This means that not every participant may have the same prize options.
- All participants age 12 & under who have earned 3 of the 6 Beanstack program activity badges by attending Wednesday Programs, will receive a program activity completion prize at the conclusion of the Summer Reading Program. While supplies last.
Ages 13-17:
- Participants in this age group may earn prizes for minutes read. Prizes are offered based on minutes read up to a maximum of 2,000 minutes (3 prizes total). Beanstack will send an email notification once new prizes are earned. Minutes are cumulative and do not have a weekly requirement. Prizes are on a first come, first serve basis while supplies last. This means that not every participant may have the same prize options.
- Teens who read a minimum of 100 minutes a week will be entered into the weekly prize drawing. In order to be entered into the weekly drawing, 100 minutes must be read and logged during that week. For the purposes of the drawing, minutes do not carry into the next week.
- Drawings will be held on the following days: June 16, June 23, June 30, July 14, July 21, and July 28 (participants may only win one drawing).
Adults (ages 18+):
- Participants in this age group may earn prizes for minutes read. Prizes are offered based on minutes read up to a maximum of 2,500 minutes (3 prizes total). Beanstack will send an email notification once new prizes are earned. Minutes read for this age category are cumulative and do not have a weekly requirement. Prizes are on a first come, first serve basis while supplies last. This means that not every participant may have the same prize options.
- Adults who read and log a minimum of 100 minutes during that week will be entered into a weekly prize drawing. For the purposes of the drawing, minutes do not carry into the next week.
- Drawings will be held on the following days: June 16, June 23, June 30, July 14, July 21, and July 28 (participants may only win one drawing).
Participants 17 years of age or younger will receive a sign-up bag after registering through Beanstack. Participants must come into the library in person to pick up their bag. T-shirts (or sippy cups) will be provided for ages 0-17, while supplies last. If any prizes, shirts, or other items are lost or damaged, we cannot provide a replacement.
Participation in our weekly programs is required for the Wednesday Beanstack Program Activity badges. After participating in the Wednesday Program, participants will be given a Beanstack activity badge code. The codes are only active for 7 days and must be input into Beanstack before they expire to qualify for the Wednesday Beanstack Program Activity badge.
